Sydney Smith (a.k.a. Mom) has over 24 years teaching experience with 17 years in the Kindergarten classroom. Currently, she is a Reading Intervention teacher at Wright Elementary School, Birmingham City Schools, Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to this position, she taught Reading Recovery® for 6 years. Her background knowledge and experience working with beginning readers has been the basis for the “Harry” books. Our books incorporate many of the specific concepts essential for the emerging reader.
In 2004, Sydney achieved National Board Certified Teacher in the area of “Literacy: Reading-Language Arts (Early and Middle Childhood)".
Mom rescued Harry from the Birmingham Humane Society. At the time he was about 2 months old. He is mostly a gray ‘tabby’ cat but we think he probably is a bit ‘Maine Coon’ because of his big, fluffy tail. Harry enjoys being the star of the books.
